Implementation of a training program aimed at increasing the capacity and professionalization of water service management entities in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, on the initiative of ERSARA – Regulatory Entity for Water and Waste Services in the Azores.
ProAguas Açores provides general and comprehensive training, combining theoretical training with practice, to support better management of entities providing water supply services and waste and rainwater management. It also provides moments of reflection and discussion of topics of local interest.
Each edition includes 20 modules distributed over a week, totaling 30 hours of training. It addresses issues of public policy, regulation, service management, technical, economic and financial, legal, social and environmental aspects and new challenges, taking into account the specific challenges of service management in island regions.
In 2021, the 1st edition of the program took place on the island of Santa Maria, the easternmost and southernmost of the archipelago, with less than 6000 inhabitants, aimed exclusively at top managers and technicians of the Municipality of Vila do Porto
In 2022, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th editions of the program were held on the islands of Graciosa, Terceira and Flores, also run exclusively to the top managers and technicians of the Municipality of Graciosa, the Municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, Praia Ambiente, the Municipality of Santa Cruz das Flores and the Municipality of Lajes das Flores.
Em 2023 tiveram lugar as 5.ª e 6.ª edições do programa dirigidas respetivamente à ilha de São Miguel e ao triângulo dos Açores, sendo esta última realizada na ilha do Faial.

LIS-Water’s mission is thus to reinforce public policies, regulation and management of water services for the benefit of society, integrating the best knowledge in management, economics, engineering, law, social sciences, communication and other relevant areas.
Together with its partners, the association intends to make available and produce the best and most up-to-date knowledge at an international level and to transfer it continuously to decision-makers, water professionals, industry and society.
In this way, we will make our contribution towards achieving the great goals of humanity regarding better water governance, for a better world.
