LIS-Water was invited to participate in the International Forum: water and sanitation: opportunity, development and quality of life, organized by Sunass – National Superintendency of Sanitation Services of Peru, which took place on February 9, as part of the commemoration of the 30 years of the institution.
Represented by its President, Jaime Melo Baptista, LIS-Water intervened in the debate panel on regulatory institutionality at a global level, having left the following key messages for the sector:
The regulator must…
• Be an accelerating instrument for public policies and balancing stakeholders;
• Use differentiated regulatory models adapted to different contexts;
• Contribute to optimizing the territorial organization and corporate management of providers;
• Contribute to continuous improvement and to the clear definition of industry rules;
• Support the existence of a universal and credible sectoral information system;
• Verify compliance with the law and contracts;
• Promoting better management plans and adequate tariffs;
– Being attentive to and intervening in the quality of the service;
– Being attentive to and intervening in the quality of the water;
– Intervening in the adequacy of the relationship between providers and users;
– Being a guarantee of good use and protection of natural resources;
– Promoting access to the service for the poorest and most vulnerable citizens.
