ERSAR celebrated 10 years of independent water and waste regulation

On March 6th, ERSAR – Water and Waste Regulatory Authority, promoted the third annual edition of the “March Conferences” with the motto: 10 Years of Independent Regulation.

LIS-Water was one of the invited entities with interventions in two different panels. The first intervention was a Master Class on European financing in the water and waste sector, moderated by Inês Trindade from ERSAR, which in addition to LIS-Water’s Strategic Advisor, Jaime Melo Baptista, featured a presentation by Carla Leal, Director of the Unit Coordination of Funds at the Agency for Development and Cohesion and Ana Cristina Carrola, Member of the Board of Directors of the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA)

The second presentation was given by Rita Amaral, Executive Director, who spoke at the international panel “Regulation and monitoring of SDG6: a look at other regulatory practices”. This round table was framed and moderated by Graça Fonseca, CEO of Because Impacts, and also included presentations by Andrea Guerrini, President of European Water Regulators (WAREG), Ed Smeets, Chair of the Specialist Group Statistics & Economics at International Water Association and Juliet Young, Chief Economist at Ofwat.

The challenges of water efficiency and the valorization of urban waste were central themes at an event that celebrated a decade of dedication to the regulation of these essential sectors. The initiative not only brought to light crucial discussions about the future of water, but also emphasized the vital role of society in the search for quality services at a fair price.

May the future be marked by rigorous management, guaranteeing universal access to this essential asset for life.
