Here you can find the meaning of some key terms of the activity of LIS-Water.
Public sector policy
Government action programs aimed at coordinating the means at the disposal of the State and private activities, for the achievement of socially relevant and politically determined objectives, which constitute collective goals.
Regulation of services
Modern instrument of State intervention, essential for the proper functioning of services and for the defense of the public interest. It seeks to reproduce, in a market with a natural monopoly, the efficiency results that would naturally tend to be obtained in a competitive market, through regulatory measures that induce management entities to act in the public interest, without jeopardizing their viability. The regulatory authority exercises State functions, specifically and only those that the latter intends to hand over to it.
Management of services
Activity necessary to ensure the adequate provision of services by a management entity. It consists of managing and making the best use of resources in order to achieve the organization’s objectives in an effective, efficient and sustainable way. These resources include human, financial, infrastructural, technological and information resources.
Water services
Set of water supply and wastewater and rainwater management services.
Water supply service
Service that ensures the supply of water intended for human consumption (domestic purposes), but also for commercial and service, industrial and similar, and even public uses, such as washing streets, watering gardens and fighting fires. They also include the public service relating to the control of the water quality of autonomous solutions in areas where the public network is not available.
Wastewater management service
Service intended to manage wastewater, including drainage and treatment, resulting from human use in domestic, commercial and even industrial activity, and whose characteristics have changed compared to natural waters. It also includes the public service relating to the collection, transport and treatment of sludge from autonomous domestic wastewater treatment systems (septic tanks). It also includes the production of water for reuse.
Rainwater management service
Service intended to manage rainwater, avoiding flooding resulting from precipitation flowing into the urban perimeter, that is, what is totally or partially urbanized or built, necessary for the balance of the urban system, duly articulated with the ecological structure (parks and gardens ) and contributing watersheds.
