The next Water Finance Investment Forum is jointly organized by the Union for the Mediterranean and the European Union, and will be held in Cairo from October 30 to 31, as part of Cairo Water Week (October 29 to November 2), under the theme “Action on Water Adaptation for Sustainability”.
The Water Finance Investment Forum aims to raise the profile of water sector investment and finance issues on the Mediterranean policy agenda and continue to support Union for the Mediterranean countries to improve their water sector investment and financing policies. This forum is part of a series of events jointly organized by the EU Delegation in Cairo and the Union for the Mediterranean since 2019.
The last editions of this forum had a special focus on wastewater treatment and desalination, in 2021 and 2022 respectively. This year’s edition will have a special focus on the water-energy-food-ecosystems nexus (WEFE Nexus). The choice of this theme comes as a response to the member states of the Union for the Mediterranean and other stakeholders, following the holding of the 1st WEFE Nexus regional roundtable in the Mediterranean and the parallel WEG 13 meeting in Rabat in June 2023, which concluded that progress in the formulation of integrated WEFE Nexus policies requires more funding.
