Management of apparent water losses

Third-party organization

29 march, 2023

09:00 - 18:00

Castelo Branco, Portugal

APDA – the Portuguese Water Distribution and Drainage Association, through its Technical Committee for Standardization CT 116, is holding a meeting on “Managing apparent water losses – the contribution of meters” on March 29 at the Cine-Teatro Avenida in Castelo Branco.

The program includes good practices for managing the meter fleet, monitoring and preventing tampering, as well as an approach to technology, namely on how to manage the meter fleet more effectively using data from telemetry systems, which are increasingly being adopted by the Management Entities. Another topic on the program is legal metrology and the various standards associated with both meter construction solutions and their metrology and placement on the market.

According to the Technical Committee for Standardization CT 116, and in view of the recent episodes experienced in Portugal, the fight against the scarcity of drinking water must be a priority for everyone, and this committee’s intention is to warn of apparent water losses due to meter measurement errors, illegal acts on meters and incorrect manipulation of readings, factors that harm the distribution and use of water, and consequently the protection of this vital resource and the financial sustainability of the entities that manage it.
